In this capacity, he authored "Colonies and Nation," an essay published in Harper's New Monthly Magazine in 1901 and accompanied by the present illustration. This article formed part of Wilson's multi-volume work, A History of the American People, which included ten illustrations by Pyle. The Battle of Bunker's Hill occurred on June 17, 1775, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, marking an early engagement of the American Revolution. Residents of nearby Boston observed the battle, a British victory, from their rooftops, as depicted here.
